In most jurisdictions, the property manager or business owner is responsible to hire a local licensed fire protection company to inspect the fire extinguishers every 12 months.

During this inspection, the technician will check the pressure gauge on the fire extinguisher and see if there are any leaks or other signs of damage. If there is any damage found during this inspection, it should be repaired immediately or replaced before the tag is updated.

Once the fire extinguishers are serviced, the tags will be updated by the inspector to prove compliance to the fire marshall.
